poetry
is like a dirty, ragamuffin mongrel kid
stiffly sweeping through the empty streets
one eye fixed behind her dusty feet
one ear to the breeze
vanishing into shadow at the slightest wish
wildly fleeing from the man in the stiff collar
scratching her betrayer
not feeling
the splinters that litter her lungs
not understanding
the callouses on her big toes.
