This is to all you future foreign exchange students/travelers to France:
Be friendly but not desperate.
Aka, it's a fresh feeling to realize that although I've met a nice few people here who are friendly, I still don't have to feel obliged to be best friends with them. You shouldn't sacrifice a sensible friend detector just b/c you're in a place where there aren't nearly as many English-speaking people. So know who you'd like to hang out with, and who you don't particularly feel good about getting to know, and act on those two things. And be content with that.

That's right. Do never feel bad about not finding friends right on, it will take some time. I think it is not all about not speaking English, it is also the different culture, was the same with me back in the days.
